Screen Tees

When I was in middle school and even for part of high school my wardrobe was almost entirely composed of little screen tees. You know, the ones with either brand logos, popular catch-phrases, or cute designs from PacSun, Abercrombie & Fitch, etc etc. It's quite embaressing looking back on what I used to wear, but hey, it was middle school and I wore what everyone else wore. Since I've grown out of that style I haven't purchased a tee in years, I barely even buy solid color ones! Every time I'm tempted to I just look back and think about how much money was wasted on useless little t-shirts.

Nowadays the basic screen tee is definitely not what it used to be. As everyone knows, there are all sorts of designers and indie labels and such who are coming out with adorable, very artistic, and fashionable tees. It's not about falling back into the t-shirt, jeans, & sneakers rut that I was in but it's about taking that t-shirt and dressing it up with a cute jacket, skinny jeans, boots, & a great piece of jewelry. And with so many to choose from it allows me to find one that actually says something about myself and my style instead of being a walking advertisement.

Here are some of my favorites:

Chanel Resort 07 hair & makeup

Style.com is featuring the scoop on Chanel's hair & makeup used in their resort 07 Grand Central Station show. I love how the models' were styled with long ribbons in their hair and shimmery seafoam green shadow on the inner corners of their eyes, a fresh, fun take on the "older generation's frosty pastel eye shadow". It has inspired me to make a trip to the nearest craft/fabric store to pick out some pretty satin ballet pink, black, and cream ribbons to tie in my ponytail as well as dig out my Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow compact for that "seamist" shade that I never used but now suddenly seems so fitting. I think this is a great way to lighten up all of my dark, more sophisticated fall and winter clothing that I've been purchasing these days. If only I could get my hands on those fantastic dangly pearl earrings...

New jacket

I ordered this Sonia Rykiel trench coat off of Active Endeavors and it finally came in the mail. I orinigally paid $245 for it (reduced from $490) and I thought that was a pretty good deal. But the day after I recieved it in the mail I noticed it was further reduced on the website for $147. Sooo I called up Active Endeavors and they promptly corrected the situation and paid me back the difference. Excellent service for an even more excellent deal on a gorgeous jacket.

Seriously, it is love. The fit is perfect and it is roomy enough to wear sweaters underneath. And the bright red heart adds a fun, quirky touch.

Favorite beauty products

Sorry I've been slacking on the updates. Anywho, I thought I'd share some of my current favorite beauty products.

1. L'oreal Vive Pro Style & Body Infusing shampoo and conditioner. Everything about this product is fantastic- the hot pink bottle, the amazing scent, the shine & volumn & bounciness that it adds to my hair, the $3.50 price tag.

2. Estee Lauder Magnascope mascara, $21. The best mascara I've come by thus far. One stroke on each eye is all you need for great volumn and thickness. It stays put all day and it comes right off when I wash my face instead of leaving dark circles around my eyes which never rub off.

3. Almay Clear Complexion Makeup, about $10. FINALLY a foundation that actually matches my skin perfectly, is easy to apply and blend, and doesn't feel heavy. Also, instead of causing blemishes it helps make them go away.

4. Lancome Juicy Tubes Smoothie gloss in Copper Cabana, $12.50. A lovely bronzey, shimmery shade of gloss. Feels smooth and not sticky and is an excellent compliment to a tan. I've been using it all summer.

Behnaz Sarafpour for Target

Just saw the new Go International line images at Target, this time it's Behnaz Sarafpour. Lots of velvet and dark colors. Each new line looks exciting and promising but I'm always disappointed in the quality. The designs are great, the execution sucks. Here's the link: http://pressroom.target.com/pr/news/fashion/go-international/album.aspx?q=&id=1397&s=dateasc&pg=1 (sorry I don't know why the link thing isn't working!)

I like the green lace-covered tee, mainly because I really liked the lace covered tee in Sarafpour's fall RTW line as seen here:

cheap monday jeans

Okay so I know this is like ancient history as far as fashion goes for the rest of the world, but, at least to my knowledge, the Cheap Monday jeans thing hasn't really caught on here. I was shopping today over in the Haight Ashbury district at a store called Villain's in search of a new pair of skinny jeans that would fit my budget (sadly that doesn't include Jbrands) and I found some Cheap Monday ones that I liked. The fit was right (they run so tiny, I had to get a 27 and I normally wear a 25!) and the price was right at $65. I decided not to buy them right yet because I would have preferred them in a darker denim. Came home later, googled the brand name, came up with all sorts of interesting stuff about their anti-Christian logo which is a skull with an upside down cross (which I didn't even notice when I tried them on).

Devilish jeans, I love it! And who can resist clothing that stirs up controversy? I must go back and get myself a pair.

headbands!

Headbands are probably my favorite accessory of the season because I hate doing my hair. A cute headband takes 2 seconds to put on and can instantly pull any look together. Aside from my basic black & tortoishell ones that I've had forever, I've purchased a few cheap trendy ones from Forever21 and H&M, and a black patent leather one from Urban Outfitters. Out of boredom I decided to look around online and see what other ones I could come up with. Here are some of my favorites:

left to right, top to bottom:
nordstrom france luxe buckle headband $45, anthropologie flight pattern $32, anthropologie filigree $32, banana republic tweed $18, urban outfitters plastic bow $16, shop intuition 60's silk $44, shop intuition ciara couture chain link $76, urban outfitters patent bow $16, anthropologie karen sue $28, wet seal $4.50

Vivienne Westwood for Nine West

I'm all about collaborations between big-name designers and discount super-stores (The Go! International line at Target for instance) because given my college-student budget there are a limited amount of options when buying designer fashion. When I first heard about Vivienne Westwood doing a line for Nine West I was so excited, until I heard about the price range. I mean, isn't the whole point of collaborating with Nine West is to get Vivienne Westwoood at Nine West prices? One of my co-workers went as far as to get a second part time job at Nine West in order to get her hands on some Vivienne Westwood at employee-discounted prices. Not a bad idea, if only I had the time.

Cavallier handbag, $495

It's a shame because I really do like some of the pieces that are posted up on the website.
